According to a release from the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG), the Islamic month of Rabi-ul-Awwal in the Islamic Year 1432 A.H. commenced last Saturday, February 5. The release informed thatYOUMUN NABI, the Birth Anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (On Whom Be Peace), is celebrated on the 12th day of Rabi-ul-Awwal, which is next Wednesday, February 16.
This day is declared a National Holiday in Guyana and Muslims from across the country will be visiting their masjids to listen to lectures on the life of Prophet Muhammad and will partake in a day of togetherness.
The revealed scripture, the Holy Quran, states that Prophet Muhammad was sent as a Mercy to the World. He led by example and is the perfect role model for human beings.
Prophet Muhammad’s teachings and actions are referred to as “THE SUNNAH” and this is the second source of guidance in Islam after the Holy Qur’an.
The President and Executives of the Central Islamic Organization have invited all Masjids to organize Youmun Nabi functions and deliberate on the relevance of Prophet Muhammad’s message, as well as his similarities with other Prophets.
The CIOG in its release, encouraged the participation of all Guyanese in the celebration of Youmun Nabi and maintaining the sanctity of all religious holidays.
