Dear Editor,
Please permit me some space to ask what I believe to be questions that have boggled the minds of motorists in Guyana. My question is directed to the officials at the Guyana Revenue Authority.
Since the national budget was presented, debated and passed, there has been no word from the GRA about the sale of the motor vehicle licences. In the past, this announcement came soon after the passing of the national budget.
The passing of this year’s budget signalled a number of things, given that this is an election year.
If the Finance Minister was diligent enough to prepare his budget early, then other agencies, including GRA should have made early preparations for the sale of the various licences that depended on the passing of the national budget.
I am beginning to wonder if the staff have become slothful at GRA, or whether there is a breakdown in the system of issuing the licences.
If the sale of the licence begins in late March or early April, then quite a lot of time would have elapsed in the year, and motorists still have to pay the same amount of money for the licence for the entire year.
My other question is whether the system of selling the motor vehicle licences will be the same as last year? The system last year was quite a relief for us drivers, since the licence was available at most locations for renewals.
So Mr. Sattaur, please address these two important questions for me, for as you are well aware, we all want value for our money!
