Forty-nine year-old overseas-based Guyanese Ray Williams must have felt that it was safe to park his car on Princes Street and talk to his girlfriend on Monday night.
But two bandits reminded him of a different reality when they relieved him of the car he was driving along with other valuables.
It was around 21:20 hours, when Williams, a Customer Service Agent with Delta Airlines who resides at 116-119 147th Street Jamaica, New York, was relieved of a Toyota Carina 212 motorcar, one gold band valued $250,000, one Blackberry cell phone valued US$350, two Chase bank cards, one driver’s licence, US$20 and two suitcases containing clothes and boots valued US$700.
According to the police, Williams who is on vacation, and was stopping at the Sleep-In Hotel on Brickdam, had parked motorcar PKK 9921 on Princes Street, between Haley and Hardina Streets, and was conversing with his girlfriend, Audrey Nauth, while sitting in the driver’s seat.
A man who could be identified and who was dressed in a plaid shirt, light blue jeans and a flop hat, approached him with a gun in his hand and demanded that he hand over everything.
Williams complied and handed over the articles mentioned above.
The suspect was subsequently joined by another man who was also armed with a handgun and wearing a grey jersey and blue pants.
This bandit ordered Williams and his girlfriend to run away, which they did, running into Nauth’s yard.
The men then made good their escape in Williams’ car, west along Princes Street.
A police press release issued yesterday stated that the motorcar was later recovered by the police at St Phillips Green, Georgetown, with several parts missing.
