Cuban doctor recalled for alleged sexual assault

Senior medical officials attached to both the Oscar Joseph and Suddie Public Hospitals have been forced to transfer a Cuban doctor after he reportedly fondled two teenagers who were at the time his patients. According to information, the teenagers aged 15 and 16 years old were at the time attending the Oscar Joseph Hospital.
This newspaper was informed that the incident occurred, in the latter part of 2010. According to reports, one of the teenagers was at the time attending clinic for a urinary tract infection disease, and reportedly said that the doctor, who was at the time under the influence of alcohol, inserted his finger in her vagina and proceeded to fondle her breasts, while he was inspecting her. The teenager is reportedly pregnant.
The report further stated that the teenager subsequently informed her mother about the incident who later reported the matter to both the Matron and doctors at Suddie Public Hospital. At Tuesday’s statutory meeting the issue was again highlighted by AFC councilor, Francis Darchiville, who said the transferal of the doctor to Wakenaam is like transferring “the problem” to that island, since there are teenagers who reside on that island.
The very vocal councilor described the issues and the doctor’s behaviour as irresponsible and noted that the doctor should have conducted himself more professionally.
“The teenager’s plight is an additional burden to taxpayers. Her chances of getting married are minimal and it has also created a social burden in society.”
Mr. Darchiville explained that since the teenager has not been fully equipped with a particular skill her burden has now been thrust on the government.
At Tuesday’s RDC meeting Regional Chairman, Alli Baksh, commenting on the matter, said that the issue about the doctor’s misconduct was reported to the Cuban authorities and the Ministry of Health.
Baksh noted too that in the case of the 15-year-old her parents are reluctant to give evidence while the teenager described the relationship with the doctor as just being “friends.”
In another case, the other teenager has been reportedly impregnated by another Cuban who has returned to his homeland, because his contract has since expired.
