Forty-six-year-old Andrew Sultan of 14 Jamoon Drive Meadow Brook, is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Burns Care unit. He sustained severe burns to his entire upper left side whilst cooking.
According to reports reaching this publication, the man sustained his injuries yesterday around 12:30 hrs.
Sources disclosed that Sultan, who is a taxi driver, suffered a stroke last year and ever since walks with a limp. He often needs support, a neighbour said.
The man was cooking when he went to the washroom. It was on his way back to “check the pot” that the accident occurred. Apparently, the man was using kerosene stove to do his cooking.
Sultan reportedly leaned on the table on which the kerosene stove stood. He knocked the stove over and set himself ablaze.
Ramesh, who was the only one at home with Sultan at the time, said that he was alerted when the man said, “Oh God, Oh God Ramesh, come help meh.” Ramesh said that when he entered the room he saw the fire ablaze on Sultan’s skin.
According to Ramesh, he immediately took a “li’l mat” that was nearby and quickly put an end to the blaze.
Hospital sources said that the man sustained 30 per cent burns to his entire upper left side.
This newspaper understands that Sunday was Sultan’s 46th birthday. It was disclosed that the man was a “lil drunk” when the accident occurred since he had “a slight after celebration”.
Hospital sources disclosed that, the man is somewhat in delusional state but in a stable condition.
