Repairs commence on Cyril Potter College’s roof
One day after high winds destroyed the roof of the building that houses the library of the Cyril Potter College of Education; the Education Ministry in a statement yesterday said that substandard work cannot be blamed for the incident.
The Ministry in a statement, yesterday, explained that what was reported by the Ministry yesterday cannot be correlated with that incident since the building was constructed in 1999 and never experienced any prior problems.

According to the release, site inspection by Ministry of Education officials, among them Permanent Secretary, Phulandar Kandhi; Chief Education Officer Olato Sam; Special Project Officer Rabindra Kishum; and CPCE Administrator Lucille Griffith, revealed that high winds created an upward force after hitting the northern wall of the library building.
Yesterday when this newspaper visited the college contractors were commencing works on the damaged area. None of them were willing to speak to the media.
Kaieteur News was unable to get a comment from the principal to ascertain if there was any damage to books in the library.
It was around 08:40 hours on Sunday when the security guards on duty as well as students housed in the nearby dormitories, heard the slapping of zinc. This was followed by a loud crash as almost the entire northern section of the roof of the building was blown away.
There were no reported injuries to anyone as the facility had been closed for the weekend and no one was inside.
