Mark Lashley claimed first prize in the Stag Beer Mash Golf Tournament, held on Saturday at the Lusignan Golf Club.
There was an impressive turnout of 41 players for the premiere event, the largest field for the year.
Conditions in the fairway were good, and the greens lightning fast resulting in numerous three putts, so scores remained on the high side.
Lashley shot a gross 91 with a handicap of 24, for a net of 67. Second place went to young Avinda Kishore who shot a gross 75 (handicap 7) net 67.
Kishore also won lowest gross prize and caught the eye of the ANSA MCAL officials who watched the youngster over several holes and were impressed by his talent and composure.
Third place went to Francois Montour who shot 88 (handicap 19) net 69, proving that his intense practice sessions on his short game during the week paid off.
Nearest to the pin went to Muntaz Haniff.
Ansa McAl pulled out all the stops for the tournament with impressive trophies, snacks, fresh fruit and of course free Stag beer for the players, as well as donating to the club’s youth programme.
And in remarks at the prize giving ceremony, PRO Darshanie Yussuf revealed to cheers that the company will be installing five benches around the course for weary golfers.
Club Secretary William Walker thanked the company not just for the financial support but for getting involved in the tournament and he commended Yussuf and Stag brand coordinator John Maikoo for their professionalism and efficiency in making the event such a success.
He saw ANSA MCAL as becoming one of the premiere partners with the golf club and looked forward to teaming with them for another tournament later in the year.
Meanwhile this Saturday’s tournament is a team competition sponsored by Oasis Cafe.
