Last Wednesday 10-year-old Daniel Fanfare, of the Coomacka Primary School went on a public stage for the first time, to sing calypso.
But Daniel said he was not nervous–he was confident. He had a feeling about the song–a feeling that it was a winning song.
Today Daniel proudly asserts that he was adjudged winner in the 8-10 category of the schools’ junior calypso competition, which was held at the Lichas Hall in Linden, with his song “Kaieteur News”.
Daniel thanked his teachers for all their support, especially the Headmaster who wrote the song for him.
Headmaster Alister Fraser said that his inspiration to write the song stemmed from the fact that every day, when the teachers at his school are asked which paper they wish to buy when the bus comes around, the answer is always a unanimous, “Kaieteur News!”
Following is the chorus of the winning song
Kaieteur News is the best,
They better than all the rest,
Even if they tell a little lie,
Man is everybody got to buy!
