Challenger for the Presidential candidate for the People’s National Congress Reform, Dr. Faith Harding, yesterday outlined her 100 days jobs plan. This plan was produced under the direction of Dr. Harding’s Workforce and Investment Committee.
According to Dr. Harding, the plan seeks to create a sustainable future for Guyana and will stimulate economic growth and workforce Development.
“This Plan envisages the step that my administration will take in the first 100 days in office,”
Its analysis and recommendations are based on the work of the Workforce and Investment Committee, (WIC). Components of the plan include basic job creation, Data driven policy development, training strategic frame work for agriculture development, support for entrepreneurs through micro finance and a one-stop workforce centre.
Speaking of her other plans, Dr. Harding said that crime is one of Guyana’s most pressing issues and it needs to be addressed immediately.
“The murder rate throughout President Bharrat Jagdeo’s 11-year term has been the highest in Guyana’s history.”
She said that as the new administration she will be tough on crime at all levels- from engaging youths in productive employment, in reformative, rehabilitative and interactive development activities.
“We will set up a presidential task force to find the best solutions to stop Guyana’s escalating crime rate and make our nation safe again with better trained and equipped police on our streets.”
Speaking of her plans for Health and Welfare, Dr. Harding noted that Guyana is no different from other countries in the world that are beset with problems in the health care sector.
“First and foremost we will institute training programmes for healthcare workers…There is no good reason that government cannot fulfill its mandate to provide healthcare to its citizens of Guyana from the cradle to the grave.”
Dr. Harding outlined that the new facet of healthcare that will be introduced is a programme of preventative medicine.
“Care givers will be trained to educate the population in the areas of nutrition and proper exercise.” These programmes, Dr. Harding said, will be instituted nationwide with the singular purpose of making Guyana a healthier nation.
If elected, she promises that Guyana will see the establishment of a one-stop workforce center which will serve to provide unemployed persons or those seeking to change professions with advice on opportunities.
Dr. Harding’s plans also include the opportunity industrial complexes. This facility will see persons under age 30 being trained to take bold steps in harnessing the resources of our country. These facilities will also be centered in various areas where specific resources are present so as to foster development of those resources.
