Sibby Sancho, of 215 David Street, Kitty, Georgetown, dropped her face into her hands in excitement after acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry informed her that the Customs Anti Narcotics Unite (CANU) had decided to withdraw the charges of possession of cocaine and marijuana against her.
The woman was arrested along with Dale Thomas by CANU ranks on January 28, after 2.377 kilograms of marijuana and 58 grams of cocaine were found in a house at 59 David Street, where the two accused were in at the time.
The two accused made their first court appearance on January 31, last. Thomas on his first appearance pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years in jail.
Prior to Thomas’s sentencing, he daringly assured the Magistrate that he was keeping the drugs for someone, “My worship I don’t want to waste the court’s time and I just want this thing to be over and done.”
Sancho who was weeping bitterly told the court she was innocent of the charges instituted against her
Her lawyer, Deborah Backer, explained that on the day in question, her client was a visitor of the home.
CANU prosecutor Oswald Massiah said that according to advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) the charges against the number two accused should be withdrawn. Sancho left the Georgetown Magistrates’ court yesterday a ‘free woman.’
