He is the promoter that took boxing to the Princess Hotel International, in keeping with international standards. The turn out, even though not a full house was highly commendable and boxing buffs left the venue thirsting for more.
Intent on satisfying the needs of local boxing buffs, head of BrisO Promotions, Ceon Bristol has arranged another card and if the names in the lineup mean anything then boxing buffs could anticipate another slugfest.
Mr. Bristol returned to Guyana over the past weekend to attend the funeral of his grandmother and took the opportunity to release the names of the perspective fighters for the card. The former boxer, now turn promoter said that he is currently in discussion with former World Champions, Gary StClair and Vivian Harris and from all appearances both fighters are anxious to square off against each other.
Mr. Bristol said that he is now tying up the loose ends before the two Guyanese nationals affix their respective signatures to the contracts.
StClair operates out of Australia and has told this writer that he has opened camp in that country some six weeks ago in anticipation of the bout.
While we were unable to speak with Harris who had departed the Gleason’s Gym shortly before our call, former boxing star, Daurius Forde told us that Harris has already heightened training for the bout. “This will be a great match,” prophesied Forde. “Vivian has already intensified his training regimen,” he further disclosed.
Meanwhile, Hector ‘Machito’ Camacho who had taught ‘Dangerous’ Denny Dalton a boxing lesson will be matched against Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis while Shondell ‘Mystery Lady’ Alfred makes her third defence of her World International Boxing Association (WIBA) bantamweight title against a top contender who Bristol said would be named shortly.
Another overseas based Guyanese pugilist, Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite may also comprise a part of the card. He may be matched against local heavyweight champion Mitchell Rogers after the latter fighter had publicly issued a call for the former to don gloves.
Mr. Bristol has already attended to matters pertaining to the burial of his grandmother and will shortly be returning to the USA to resume arrangements for the card. “In the meantime, I wish to urge boxing buffs to gear up for an exciting Easter weekend of pure fistic fury,” he concluded.
