The cream of the country’s race walkers will be in action this morning when the Cavalier’s Sports and Tour Club (CSTC) presents it’s inaugural junior race walk 2011 this morning from the Soesdyke Primary School up to the NDC office.
Popular race walker, Rudolph Mitchell continues to dominate the field despite the best efforts of his compatriots to out-walk him. The Lindener would be going all out to extend his winning streak, long past the century mark, but will have to be wary of the likes of Jonathon Fagundes and Jeremy Cornelius among others.
The race would see the resumption of the keen rivalry between the walkers and Cornelius has promised to overturn a recent loss to Mitchell when they competed against each other in a 10K event around the inner circuit of the National Park on January 30th last. Debidyal Harold had finished in the third place position at that event and obviously would be out to avenge the humiliation.
Meanwhile, Donna Ramkissoon also continued her winning ways when she crossed the finish line way before her competitors.
The walkers would be competing for trophies, medals and other lucrative rewards donated by several business entities including Herdsmanston Lodge, Food for the Poor, Continental Agencies Ltd, Guyana Beverage Company, P&P Insurance Brokers and Salt and Pepper restaurant.
Meanwhile, activities continue on February 13 next when local race walkers compete against their Barbadian counterparts in the annual Forbes Burnham Race walk. Walkers would be sent on their way from the Burnham bust, Vlissengen and Public Roads Kitty, proceed along Vlissengen Road up to the Place of the Seven Ponds, Botanical Gardens for the grand finish.
Participants are urged to grace the starting line at 06:00hrs for a prompt start at 06:30hrs.
