– AAG present sneaker for Wilson
The Hinterland Youth and Sports Development Association (HYSDA) hosted their first meeting yesterday at the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) Headquarters after being formalised where it presented and circulated its Action Plan among its members.
The formation of the association has been in the pipelines for some time and represents a formal effort to seriously address some of the problems facing youths and athletes from the Hinterlands of Guyana, beginning with Doretta Wilson and Hezron Pedro.
The Action Plan covers a wide-range of activities the HYSDA hope to accomplish. Among those are fund-raisers, courtesy calls on all major embassies, liaison with other sport associations in an effort to build stakeholder support and general representation.
The mission statement of the HYSDA is: “The Hinterland Youth and Sport Development Association will be a forerunner to strengthen and formalise youth and sport clubs, assisting talented athletes and students from geographically difficult hinterland communities/villages in order to enhance recognition both nationally and internationally,”
Vice-Chairman of the HYSDA, Valerie Lowe told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that the association has already managed to ascertained birth certificates for Wilson and Pedro, who were previously without the extremely important national document.
The Region Nine-based, Wilson and Pedro were selected to represent Guyana this month end at the North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Cross Country race in Tobago at the golf course this month end after excellent performances here.
President of the Athletics Association of Guyana, Colin Boyce presented a road distance running sneaker for Wilson to HYSDA at Olympic House yesterday. G. Bovell Construction Company sponsored the sneaker that Boyce presented for the athlete.
