The Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) in commemoration of its President Lenox Shuffler’s 72nd birthday anniversary will be staging a one-day Festival at the National Park, starting from 10:00 hrs.
According to information received, teams from Berbice and Demerara will battle each other in friendly competition for the right to hold the lien trophy for one year, while other incentives will be at stake. Shuffler, a former national player and Captain has been at the helm of the sport for sometime now and recently retained the Presidency unopposed.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport recently about his plans, he disclosed that last year saw some amount of urgency displayed by the Body where they ended the year with a flurry of tournaments with the visit of Suriname’s Lyzecks being the highlight of 2010.
He said that this year should also see more heightened activity, while plans are currently being made to add a few more overseas teams to the tournament.
Shuffler added that attempts are being made to resuscitate the now defunct Demerara Body and that will happen soon.
Shuffler celebrated his birthday yesterday.
