If you’re a fan of Dance India Dance on Zee TV, you would have seen her dance with a pot of rice on her head and then step into a thali (plate) to win the heart of the judges.
Nikkitasha Marwaha, trained in Indian classical, Bhojouri, Kuchipudi, and ballet, is set to visit Guyana on March 11. She would be the special guest of Apsara, the producers of the hit local dance show by the same name and who now hold the franchise locally of the Miss India Worldwide Pageant.
Marwaha, a communications student from the USA, won the 18th version of the Miss India Worldwide Pageant in 1999.
“You’re tall, you’re beautiful, and you’re graceful; the three deadly combination,” Mithun Chakraborty, one of Bollywood’s best known dance icons, said of Marwaha when she appeared as one of the finalists on Dance India Dance.
Since childhood, Marwaha has lit up the stage in pageants, dance competitions, and numerous cultural events.
Marwaha sees famed Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit as her role model.
“Madhuri is the epitome of what dancing should be, and she had definitely inspired my dancing,” said Marwaha, who brought the house down with her dance to win the Miss India Worldwide pageant.
“It’s a surreal feeling, which just shows that if one perseveres, anyone can achieve what they want if they go for it with a passion,” Marwaha told reporters after winning the crown.
Apsara is set to announce the name of the contestants for the local leg of Miss India Worldwide. The winner will represent Guyana at the international pageant in Dubai on April 7.
