… Sisters shooting incident
Interdicted Presidential Guard Marvin Taylor who allegedly attempted to kill his wife Sharon Taylor, 30, and her sister Michelle Edwards 19, last week, was yesterday arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates Court before Magistrate Priya Beharry.
Taylor was accused of attempting to kill his wife Sharon Taylor and discharging a loaded firearm at Aubrey Smith, who was in the company of Taylor’s wife.
The first charge stated that on January 26, Taylor allegedly discharged with the intent to maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm he discharged a loaded firearm at Sharon Taylor, Michelle Edwards and Aubrey Smith.
It was further alleged that on the same day he attempted to murder his wife Sharon Taylor and her sister Michelle Taylor. Taylor was shot in the abdomen while Edwards sustained a gunshot to the face.
Present in court yesterday was Michelle Edwards who according to hospital sources was discharged from the hospital earlier this week.
In a bid for bail his lawyer, Nigel Hughes, stated that Smith and his client’s wife were having an affair. According to the lawyer, prior to the incident on January 26, Smith was caught in the couple’s matrimonial home.
Hughes added that it was Taylor’s wife who pushed him out of the window causing him to sustain the broken foot. It was further disclosed in court that Smith who has a medical condition passed it on to his client.
Hughes further told the court that it was Smith who opened fire at his client, unlike what was reported.
The lawyer further stated that Taylor’s wife is no longer in a critical condition, which would be a hindrance for bail being granted.
However Police Prosecutor Venella Pindar objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offences.
According to the prosecutor on the day in question Taylor saw his wife and his sister-in-law speaking with Smith and an argument ensued. The court was told that Taylor pulled out his gun and opened fire at the three persons, hitting his wife and sister-in-law.
Pindar said that the two injured persons were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by public spirited persons.
Taylor escaped but turned himself into the police several days after the shooting, with his lawyer. After the back and forth arguments between the lawyer and prosecutor, the magistrate remanded the accused.
Taylor is expected to make his second court appearance on Tuesday. On Friday evening the police had issued a wanted bulletin for Taylor.
According to the woman’s relatives he attempted to severely harm the woman and is currently on $30,000 bail for that offence.
