The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) has said that plans to roll out its Blackberry services could happen within the next few months.
According to Chief Executive Officer, Yog Mahadeo, during a press conference yesterday, it’s the hope of the company that this could be way before mid-year.
Other officials believe that a BlackBerry service launch could happen in as little as two months. According to Mahadeo, while GT&T cannot control any outside “forces”, one thing was for sure, the company is bringing Blackberry to Guyana.
Currently, Digicel is the only company in Guyana marketing the in-demand Blackberry services, a data and voice service that is much loved by businesses and other professionals always on the move. Kaieteur News understands that BlackBerry demands that its resellers guarantee reaching certain sales targets annually before an agreements.
BlackBerry is a line of mobile e-mail and smartphone devices developed and designed by Canadian company Research In Motion (RIM) since 1999.
BlackBerry functions as a personal digital assistant with address book, calendar, memopad and task list capabilities. It also functions as a portable media player with support for music and video playback and camera and video capabilities.
BlackBerry is primarily known for its ability to send and receive (push) Internet e-mail wherever mobile network service coverage is present, or through Wi-Fi connectivity. BlackBerry has the ability to use wireless data efficiently while using less power than other phones- three BlackBerrys use the same wireless spectrum as only one other smartphone.
BlackBerry is a powerful messaging phone with a large array of messaging features in a smartphone today, including auto-text, auto-correct, text prediction, support for many languages, keyboard shortcuts, text emoticons, push email, push Facebook, Twitter and Myspace notifications, push Ebay notifications, push instant messaging with BlackBerry Messenger, Google Talk, ICQ, Windows Live Messenger, AOL Instant Messanger and Yahoo Messenger.
BlackBerry commands a 14.8% share of worldwide smartphone sales, making it the fifth most popular device manufacturer after Nokia, Samsung, LG, and Apple.
The consumer BlackBerry Internet Service is available in 91 countries worldwide on over 500 mobile service operators using various mobile technologies.
