Yet another scandal erupts about “Medical University”

No stranger to the news is Nanda Kissoon, (just one of the many aliases) who has been embroiled in a nursing school scandal many times before. Kissoon was on Wednesday, last, again escorted to the Brickdam Police Station for questioning following allegations that she had defrauded a number of her students.
Kissoon, also known as Nikita Boodram and Gita Kissoon, has been known for her fraudulent medical certificate which she claims is marketable in the United States of America.
On Wednesday, several angry students of Kissoon’s “medical university” stood in front of the school as they were locked out of the building following some enquires they made relating to the authenticity of the certificate.
According to the students, they recently heard “talks” that the university is not “for real” which is what prompted their approach to Kissoon.
One student told this publication that Tuesday was ‘Graduation Day’ and one of her friends went to the ministry to seek employment only to be told that the certificate is not recognised.
This newspaper understands that the cost for enrollment to the school is $4,000 minimum; while the monthly fee is $7,500. Students revealed that the school has three teachers. “And in we class alone got 40 pupils,” said one of the students.
Kissoon teaches every course in the school and everyone is said to be taught at once.
When Kaieteur News attempted to speak with Kissoon at the school compound, she blatantly refused to comment on the matter. The woman was later taken down to the Brickdam Police Station for questioning.
Yesterday, affected students went to the police station to give statements.
Some students said that they attended the school for over a year and are saddened at the fact that it is “a fraud”.
“I really don’t know what I am going to do now because it is a lot of money I spend in buying books from she, and for transportation and fees.
Minister of Health Dr, Leslie Ramsammy held a meeting with the students, yesterday. However not much was said to have been achieved from it.
In 2009, a scandal had erupted and caused Kissoon to refund most of the money collected from students. Some are still to be refunded to this day.
The students, back then, were not aware of their predicament until the Health Minister, through a press conference, exposed the skullduggery being perpetrated by the owner of the school.
At that forum Dr Ramsammy reported that the owner of the school was engaged in fraudulent activities.
The woman, then and now, insists that her operation is legitimate.
Dr Ramsammy in a statement some time ago said that “As Minister of Health, I have had to previously intervene to stop unscrupulous persons from operating “training” schools for nursing and other Allied Health Professions.”
“We urge all prospective students to contact the Ministry of Health for guidance when they are considering paying for courses offered by other entities.
“The Ministry of Health is not opposed to the emerging of new training schools. We welcome these. But they must register and be accredited by the Accreditation Board of the Ministry of Education.”
