Regal XI defeated Success XI by 57 runs to remain unbeaten as they lead the Georgetown and East Coast zone of the Regal Stationery & Computer Centre over-35 male 20/20 & females open 10/10 softball cricket tournament organised by the Guyana Softball League in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.?
Success XI won the toss and sent Regal XI into bat and they made 153-6 in 20 overs after being 60-4 in 13 overs, but Mahase Chunilall 52 not out (4×6;4×4) and Lance Adams 33 (3×6) shared a partnership of 60 off 23 balls upping the tempo in the last overs to take Regal XI to their eventual score. The bowling for Success XI was led by Vijay Baljit with 2-24 from 4 overs.
In their turn at the crease Success XI were tied down in the first 10 overs with only 33 runs being scored for the loss of 4 wickets but Chandradyal Boodram 27 (4×6) provided some late order hitting and in company of Vijay Baljit who scored only 13 but gave most of the strike to Boodram, who was hitting the ball cleanly, took Success XI to their eventual score of 96 all out in 18 overs.
Mark Fung was in devastating form with the ball taking 5 frontline batsmen for only 20 runs in his 4 overs and he was supported by Mahendra Arjune with 2-12 from his 4 overs.
Regal XI (in their second match) made it two from two by inflicted a severe thrashing on P&B XI by 171 runs on the back of Samuel Kingston century. Scores: Regal XI 255-5 in 20 overs, thanks to a partnership of 194 off 60 balls by Samuel Kingston 120 (11×6; 3×4) and Mahendra Arjune 81 (4×6;5×4); P&B XI, under pressure to chase their huge target, went after the bowling from the onset and lost wickets as only Fallim Mohamed was able to dominate briefly in scoring 32 (4×4) as the innings closed at 84-9 in 19.1 overs. Ishwar Dass playing his first game of the competition picked up 4-21. He was supported by Anil Hardyal with 2-10 from 2 overs.
Meanwhile, the Essequibo zone of the female category will be played this Sunday between Cotton Field Superior Woods XI and Wakapoi female team for a place in the quarterfinals. The winners will join Marshon SC female team; Mahaica Queens; Mahaica Princesses; Ituni Village Warriors (Linden winners); Monar Institute female team (West Coast Winners) and Berbice winners Heavenly Angels in the quarterfinals to be played shortly.
Meanwhile, the competition continues this weekend with one more male over 35 match with Mac Masters “B” XI coming up against Success XI at the Cyril Potter College Ground and the Essequibo zone final in the female category.
