Police hunt ‘Witch’

Police are on the hunt for Clifton Ramcharran ,called Witch, 38, of Number Two Village, East Canje, Berbice.
The man said to be‘ a regular offender, escaped from the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court which was being conducted by magistrate Adela Nagamootoo on Monday during a commotion created by another prisoner, Clarence ‘Wild Hog’ Williams. As the police moved to subdue Williams, Ramcharran made good his escape.
Kaieteur News understands that Ramcharran is on a joint charge with Seepaul Pasram and Ravin Samaroo for breaking and entering the dwelling house of Simone Rampersaud and stealing a quantity of articles valued at $ 973,000.
He was previously charged with a number of offences including possession of marijuana and simple larceny.
The police had raided his home and had found the drugs and other items concealed in various parts of his house.
He had pleaded guilty on that occasion and was sentenced to jail. He was also jailed on other occasions.
