…usher in New Year
Members of the Chinese Association of Guyana gathered at the Independence Park (formerly Parade Ground) , Middle Street, yesterday to release lighted lanterns into the air to herald the Chinese New Year. This is the Year of the Rabbit.
The Chinese Association explained that the year should be a placid year, very much welcomed and needed after the ferocious Year of the Tiger, last year.
Good taste and refinement will shine on everything and people will acknowledge that persuasion is better than force.
It will be a congenial time in which diplomacy, international relations and politics will be given a front seat again, the Association said.
“We will act with discretion and make reasonable concessions, without too much difficulty. It will be a time to watch out that we do not become too indulgent as this can cause unpleasant realities.”
