Dear Editor,
Both Navin Chandrapal and Moses Nagamootoo have shown from their youth and to the present time that they are not afraid to speak for the betterment of Guyanese. A few days ago, I read on the internet about Navin and his friends at UG being defiant of the Government in the seventies.
These students fought against injustice without thinking about the consequences for their future. Mr. Chandrapal is still defiant in spite of what is said in the news about him. This shows a man of deep conviction and someone who is not scared to speak. I respect such quality in a man. In the nineties, Mr. Chandrapaul was the Minister of Agriculture and I remember that he selected qualified persons to head various departments such as NARI, IAST, EPA and others.
It was because of Navin’s inclusion in Government that intellectual friends from abroad came home to serve their country. Mr. Chandrapaul could have migrated and further his studies. He chose not to do so because the welfare of the people was his priority.
Mr. Nagamootoo has the same qualities as Mr. Chandrapaul. His fight for justice started as a schoolboy in Berbice. His principal (Mr. Rudra Nauth) was being victimized for being a member of the PPP. Nagamootoo, teachers and students supported their principal. They were locked out of the school. They ended up at Port Mourant racecourse to continue their education. This early defiance of dictatorship has made Mr. Nagamootoo into an individual who will always be there to fight injustice. To ensure that he has leadership capabilities, he went on to become a lawyer.
Any party who is running for elections should have Chandrapaul and Nagamootoo at the helm. These gentlemen have proven by their actions that they would give their bodies and souls for the Guyanese people.
