From left Roy Cummings nearest to the pin, second place William Walker, MPS sales supervisor Michelle Mackintosh, third place Munaf Arjune, winner Albert Russell, best gross Monhalall Dinanauth and MPS director John Chin after the presentation.
Albert Russell won his maiden tournament at the Lusignan Golf Club when he carted off
the trophy for the 2011 Mings Products and Services Ltd tournament last Saturday.
Russell, playing off a 20 handicap, had an impeccable front nine of 39 and while wavering a little on the back, shot a 47 for a combined 86, net 66. It was enough to see off William Walker, who played controlled if not unspectacular golf, shooting 13 pars and one birdie, ending with a gross 75, net 67.
Third place went to Munaf Arjune who also shot a gross 75 but with a handicap of seven, net 68.
Mohanlall Dinanauth took best gross with 74 and nearest to the pin
went to Roy Cummings.
The event attracted a strong field of 36 players, and the low scores were an indication of the good conditions including a shorter rough, and greens that ran relatively true thanks in no small part to the work of groundskeeper Mike Mangal and his staff.
MPS Director John Chin said the company, which is the agent for Yamaha products in Guyana, was happy to sponsor the event and looked forward to this being an annual event. It was a sentiment echoed by club treasurer Brian Hackett who thanked MPS for the support during a candle-lit prize giving ceremony.
This Saturday will see an Ansa McAl sponsored event featuring Stag Beer and once again a large field is expected.
