Region Two kicks off Children’s Mash

The Region Two Department of Education has kicked off the first in a series of activities to commence the Children’s Mashramani competition.
Celebrating under the National Theme ‘Showcasing our culture, sustaining our Pride,’ children attending both Nursery and Secondary Schools on the Essequibo Coast participated in the areas of dramatic poetry and calypso.
The well attended series of competitions attracted Region Two Education officials, the Regional Executive Officer and students from the various schools in the Region.
District Education Officer, Lorraine English, first expressed her gratitude, while welcoming both students and teachers to this year’s Mashramani celebrations. She urged the audience to support the participants and to have fun at the same time.
In the dramatic poetry segment the Affiance Nursery School emerged with 120 points to place first.
Their dramatic piece entitled ‘Message to Guyana’, while in the calypso segment, Queenstown Primary copped first place with ‘Land of Education’.
Taymouth Manor Primary placed first in the 8-10, dramatic poetry, while Tapakuma Lake Primary, gained first place for the calypso piece ‘My recipe.’
Reliance Nursery, who only had one participant, was awarded a special prize. The celebrations continued on Wednesday with the Masquerade and dance on Friday, with the costume and physical competitions.
The event was held at the Anna Regina Community Centre ground.
