In only practice match for Guyana team
National team left-handers Vishaul Singh and Assad Fudadin and standby all-rounder Chris Barnwell were among the runs on the final day of Guyana’s only two-day practice at Bourda.
Singh, who hit 44 with 3 fours from 119 balls and 165 minutes and Skipper Fudadin whose 47 was decorated with 6 fours and lasted 143 balls and 165 minutes, both retired ‘out’ at lunch to allow others to bat as Fudadin’s X1, resuming on 222-2 declared just after the interval at 337-4. Barnwell then struck 5 fours and a six from 50 balls in an entertaining 43 as Davendra Bishoo’s X1 reached 131-4 when play ended.
After Singh and Fudadin retired at 295-2 at lunch Royston Crandon (17) and Derwin Christian (11) perished in the second session as leg-spinner Bishoo, who bowled 26 overs, finished with 2-27.
Guyana T20 opener Richard Ramdeen (17) was bowled leg-stump by pacer Keon Joseph at 25-1 when Bishoo’s X1 replied while Steven Jacobs (3) and Gajanand Singh (23) fell to medium pacer Paul Wintz in the space of a run as Bishoo’s X1 slipped to 48-3.
Barnwell who batted with authority was removed by part-time off-spinner Royston Crandon just before the close leaving former West Indies under-19 opener Trevon Griffith unbeaten on 28.
Wintz, who showed no signs of a groin injury which has kept him out of action since he bowled impressively in the Champions League T20 tournament in South Africa last September, took 2-18. The Guyana team will have a training session this morning and a practice session tomorrow at Bourda before winging out on Tuesday for Jamaica where they will face the Jamaicans in their opening game of the Regional 4-day competition from Friday at Alpart.
