As was stated in their yearend review, The Pocket Rocket Boxing gym is going all out to stay on top of the game in their quest to be the number one gym in Guyana.
The Gym located in New Amsterdam will be represented by a 13-member team including one female at the national Under-15 Inter Club Boxing Championships set for today at Goed Fortune, West Bank Demerara.
Among those expected to be on show are brothers, Joel Williamson and Jamal Eastman who are nephews of former World rated boxer and national champion Howard Eastman.
Hilton Benny, Gowtam Benny and the lone female fighter Rena David who will be aiming to make a name for herself. Fistic battles will get underway at 14:00hrs.
Richard Williamson will be among a bevy of other amateur fighters who are expected to take part in some supporting fights on the card.
According to Coach Orland ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers his fighters have a good opportunity to come out on top since they have been hard at training since the beginning of the year. The Gym is extending gratitude to GABA for the invitation.
Former National Amateur and Professional boxing champion, Vice President of GABA Jeff Roberts along with Rogers and some parents will be accompanying the fighters today.
Roberts who has responsibilities for Berbice, was also instrumental in securing finances to offset expenses for the boxers to attend these championships.
Roberts said he was excited to see the young pugilists from the Ancient County in action wand is extending gratitude on behalf of the Club and GABA to members of the business community in Berbice who came on board to support the club so far. The Gym will be hosting their annual Inter Club Invitational tournament on February 19 at the Scotts Church Ground.
