One day after 23-year-old Sunita Dominique, of Bamboo Dam, Sparta, was doused with gasoline and set alight by two men she recognised from neighboring villages, police said her condition is still listed as serious, but stable.
Sunita who sustained severe burns is in agony due to the severity of the burns she sustained.
Damesh Mohanroop, the woman’s husband also sustained burns. An aunt, Dularie, said that the incident occurred early Tuesday morning.
The woman explained that the mother of a young baby shared a common-law relation-ship with her nephew, who recently returned from Barbados, three weeks ago.
According to Dularie, the couple and their baby were asleep, when the incident occurred.
The woman who resides in the neighboring village, said that the attackers walked into the open yard and first sprayed gasoline on Sunita, who was asleep half naked, before placing two Coco-Cola bottles fashioned into a Molotov cocktail, outside of the door.
‘The men targeted Sunita, because she awoke when her baby started to cry. It was then that she informed her husband that she smelt gasoline.
Dularie said Sunita ventured to open the door and when she had existed, the men light the bottles that contained the flammable substance and hurled it at her.
Confused and all ablaze, Dularie said Sunita rushed towards the bathroom, aback of the house where she eventually extinguished the flames.
Neighbours who were alerted to the incident assisted the young woman to the Suddie Public Hospital. This paper has learnt that one of the men in police custody is the same man with whom the injured woman shared a common-law relationship, previously.
