The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has completed a two-day Training Session which was designed specifically for the selection of Managers and Field Staff to work during the Claims and Objections exercise in preparation for the upcoming General and Regional Elections.
The training session, which is being implemented at the Registration Areas level, was conducted over the past weekend and catered for the training of persons to work within the Wismar, Mackenzie and East Bank Demerara Registration Areas.
The Resource persons at the venues included Calvin Benn, Deputy Chief Elections Officer; Keith Lowenfield, Assistant Chief Election Officer; Deolall Ramlall the Civic and Voter Education Manager; and I. Anandjit, the Human Resources Manager.
Similar training sessions, which will be held in all of the remaining Registration Areas namely: Moruka, Charity, Anna Regina, Parika, Vreed-en-Hoop, Bartica, East Coast Demerara, South Georgetown, North Georgetown , Kamarang, Mabaruma, Mahaicony, Fort Wellington, New Amsterdam , Kildonan, Corriverton, Mahdia, Paramakatoi, Lethem and Annai.
The workshops will be held between January 29 and March 13 and are aimed at equipping the participants with the requisite knowledge, skills and attitude to conduct the Claims and Objections exercise and to enable them to become acquainted with the relevant Forms which must be completed in processing the respective types of registration transactions which could be done during the exercise.
“This includes the ability to accurately fill out the various Forms, the development of skills to take good quality photographs, the development of skills to take good quality fingerprints and to be able to check the source documents for authenticity.”
GECOM will be conducting the mandatory Claims and Objections exercise regarding entries in the Preliminary List of Electors (PLE) for the upcoming General and Regional Elections.
This exercise is scheduled to commence on April 4 and conclude on May 20.
