The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) has expressed condolences to the family and friend of the late President of the Athletics Association of Guyana and sport administrator, Martin J Stephenson, who died last Thursday.
Below is the full text of the message:
The death of Mr. Martin Stephenson is surely one of the saddest and most unbearable scenarios for Guyana’s sport generally, and Track and Field in particular. The Guyana Olympic Association is indeed saddened by his passing.
Our words of sympathy go to the family of Martin, an astute sport administrator in his time, also a reference in life for all those who had the privilege to meet him.
Martin served on the Guyana Olympic Association as a Council Member from the mid 1980’s to mid 1990’s and his contributions were always very well received. Martin was honored by the GOA for a life of Outstanding Voluntary Work in December, 1999.
Guyana has lost a good citizen, sport has lost a good friend and athletics has lost a good father.
