Relatives of 17-year-old Vishaul Ram, called Ryan, of 1002 Diamond New Scheme are awaiting the findings of a post mortem examination to put to rest all speculation as to how he met his death.
The teen was pulled from the Madewini Creek some time around 18:00 hours on Sunday while the family was on an outing. The dead teen’s mother, Indira Ram, said that on Sunday her son was very eager to go to the creek but other family members were very reluctant.
“All de time he deh pon we; he want we go to the Creek. We tell he we ain’t going but he say even if we ain’t go he gon go with he friends.”
Mrs. Ram said that she along with her husband, daughter and one of her son’s friends left around 14:00 hours for the creek. The woman said that given her heart condition when they arrived at the creek she opted to stay in the vehicle.
According to the grieving woman, while in the vehicle she kept checking with her son’s friends about his activities. “Fuh some reason every couple minutes me asking he friend where he deh and wha he doing and de boy keep telling me nah worry that he alright.”
The woman said the last time she enquired about her son she was told that he was in the water and did want to come out.
“Lil bit after I ask back de boy wheh ‘Ryan’ deh and he tell me he can’t find meh son.” The woman related that she then went to the DJ’s booth. “Meh go and me tell dem that meh son missing if dem could call out he name pon de loud speaker.”
Mrs. Ram said shortly after a young man ran to her asking her to accompany him down to the creek area to make an identification.
“When meh go it had a crowd round meh son and he just deh pon de sand…he did breathing li’l bit and a doctor went round and dem try pumping he.” However, by the time the teen arrived at the Georgetown Public Hospital he had died. The woman said that after the entire commotion she asked her son’s friend what really transpired before her son went missing. Mrs. Ram told this newspaper that the friend related to her that ‘Ryan’ was playing with a female in the creek. She said that apparently sparked a dispute with her son and another male. “He friend tell meh that he and a girl de playing and like a boy who went with de girl come and start a trouble…but de friend seh dem mek peace and he ain’t know wha happen after”.
“We hearing all kinda story. One time we hear that de boy knock he, but we just waiting on the post mortem.”
The family also refuted a Stabroek News article which stated that the teen jumped off of a bridge and never surfaced.
