Based on his overall performance Bholaram “Friskie” Deo was arguably the best player at the Lusignan Golf Club for 2010, despite not winning a single tournament.
However on Saturday, he started 2011 with a splash winning the Harris Paints Golf Tournament shooting a net 69 (handicap 15, gross 84).
He narrowly pipped Fazil Haniff, who scored the same net 69, but lost on a count back for the last five holes. Third place went to M Dinanauth (75, net 70)
Lowest gross went to Guyana Open Champion Avinash Persaud (73 net 71) and nearest to the pin, inevitably, to Esau Shamshudin who claims to have patented his shot to the eighth green.
Mention should be made of former member and past president Lester Alvis who flew into town for the weekend and despite using borrowed clubs shot an impressive net 72 with some remarkable putting.
Harris Paints retail service manager Garfield Manasseh said he was excited that his company was part of the tournament and along with Nicole Griffith [marketing assistant] and Rawle Collins [sales rep] pledged they would sponsor a similar event next year.
Manasseh also explained the new approach to paint that Harris is taking based on moods in helping customers to choose from an incredible range of colours. He referred to their website http://www.harris.bb/ as one way to go about designing a colour scheme.
Club Secretary William Walker, thanked the company for the support and noted that the firm had generously volunteered for the premium package which includes a $20,000 donation towards the club’s Youth Programme, set to kick off in the next few weeks.
This will offer free lessons to youths between the ages of 10 and 17 on the basics of the game including its etiquette history and rules.
