The recently resuscitated Berbice Volleyball Association was the recipient of a banner compliments of Dave’s Television Channel Eight (DTV8), which is owned by the Rambarran family in New Amsterdam Berbice.
The banner will be used by the association whenever there are tournaments organised by the entity and when ever the BVA is participating in any activity or tournaments.
The Association was also the recipient of a cheque of an undisclosed sum from Canada-based Guyanese Mary Goberdhan. Ms Goberdhan has presented to the BVA on behalf of her family and deceased husband Reggie Goberdhan, a friend of the BVA in times past.
The BVA was recently reorganised and re-launched with former player and businessman Gregory Rambarran being elected President and National Coach and Former National captain Levi Nedd serving as Vice President and Competitions Committee chairman.
The body has also rolled out an elaborate programme for 2011which caters for all facets of the Volleyball fraternity which includes Senior, second division, junior schools, veterans and females tournaments.
Activities such as retreats, lectures and seminars are also planned.
The 2011 season got off to a positive start with the hosting of a one day open tournament which was held last Sunday at the GTM court in New Amsterdam.
Eight teams participated in the tournament which was won by Guysuco Training Centre –Port Mourant (GTCPM) with a hard fought 30-28 victory over arch rivals Rollers Volleyball club of New Amsterdam.
Falcons of East Canje placed third when the defeated Jaguars of Port Mourant 30 -17.
The BVA thanked all those who contributed so far in their successful resuscitation and re-launching and is calling on others, especially the business community, to get on board and assist in the resuscitation and spread of the game..
