“It will never be the same for my family” said the reputed wife of the Kaneville businessman, Majeed Khan, who was shot in his chest by bandits on January 6.
Khan was shot after bandits invaded his residence demanding money and jewellery in the presence of his wife and children.
The injured father of five was discharged from the hospital last Tuesday and is said to be well on his way to recovery.
However, a feeling of fear still lingers in the home and has had a drastic effect on the couple’s children, aged three, four and seven. Further the family feels insecure since, from the way the entire ordeal occurred, they feel that they were targeted by persons who know them well.
Khan’s reputed wife, Pamela Gordon, said that a terrifying image of the night’s proceedings remains in her mind.
The woman related that she fears a lot for herself and family; but, moreover her children for whom she prays, ever so often, to be protected.
The distraught Gordon said that, though she thinks the police are doing a good job, she still does not see any patrols in the neighbourhood.
The woman expressed her concern for her children in the future as the time approaches where they will start attending lessons and may have to go home late. The worried mother said that she wishes she can move but there is nowhere to go.
According to her, the shop will be soon reopened because that is the only way for them to earn an income.
When asked what measures of security she plans to put into place in order to make her children feel secure, Ms. Gordon said that there is not much she can do as it relates to the installation of security because of the mere fact that, she is not wealthy and security installation can be somewhat costly.
“It will be hard on me alone but I love my family and will always try to be a good mother” said Gordon.
Shortly after the attack, Ms. Gordon related that she was on the verandah when she observed five men entering the premises.
She said that they were wearing handkerchiefs and stockings over their faces and two of them brandished guns while the others had knives.
According to Ms. Gordon, when she saw the men entering she shouted “thief, thief” even as she heard the men ordering her husband to be silent and direct them to the money and jewellery.
She said two of the men approached her and demanded the same from her and in the process one of them struck her with a gun while the other cuffed her.
Gordon said she told them that the money was in the shop and that they did not have any jewellery.
The woman related that the men even accosted her eldest daughter demanding to know where the money was and she told them immediately it was in the shop.
Gordon estimated that the men managed to grab just about $150,000.
The men also took her bag which contained bank cards, a mobile phone and some money in a wallet, among other items.
She said that during the ordeal, which lasted mere minutes, she heard a gunshot and when the men had fled she saw her husband slumped in a pool of blood.
