Drug agents of the police anti narcotics unit came up blank yesterday when they detained an outgoing passenger at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri on a suspicion that he had swallowed cocaine.
The passenger whose address was listed as Guyhoc Gardens, was about to board a LIAT flight to St. Lucia when he was seized by the anti-narco agents. The agents had received word that the passenger had ingested cocaine.
They brought the man to the city where they had an x-ray done but nothing alien showed up in his stomach. The man had vehemently protested his innocence but was still held causing him to miss his flight.
On several occasions police narco agents as well as those from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit have caused persons to miss their flights as a result of inaccurate information.
One police narcotics agent told Kaieteur News that such situations occur much to the inconvenience of passengers because some people are feeding false information to the police. The agent believes that such information may be design to distract the police from the real mules.
“Wicked people are passing false information, distracting the police and causing inconvenience to passengers who sometimes lose their jobs,” the narcotics agents said.
Nevertheless, all leads must be checked out to ensure that the trafficking in cocaine from Guyana is curtailed.
