Sea Defence breach at Ogle scares Shamrock Gardens residents

Residents of Shamrock Gardens, Ogle, East Coast Demerara are horrified at a breach in the sea defence near the Ogle Koker.
They say that the water is rushing through their backyards and is flooding the area. They fear that it could eventually become devastating to the village and surrounding areas.
“This thing has been happening for the past three weeks, and nobody ain’t saying or doing anything about it. When this thing turn worst then everybody will suffer,” one resident related.
At the affected area in Shamrock Gardens, the water was flowing from a canal that was receiving the outpour of the breached sea defence. Then there was a large pool of water that was formed in what could be described as a valley.
“It look like Niagara falls washing away onto the land.”
Regional officials, when contacted, said that they were unaware of any breaches in the Ogle sea defence. However, they promised an investigation.
Last month the anxiety over unusually high waves caused by the spring tides caused the Ministry of Works to step up its monitoring of the sea defence structures along the vulnerable sections of the East and West Coast of Demerara.
It is apparent that the Ogle area was overlooked for awhile since residents claimed it has almost been three weeks since the breach has caused them discomfort.
