Dear Editor,
Readers ought not be fooled by Harry Gill’s, newly self appointed position as “champion of truth” when all he will ever be is a serious contender for the position as “king of deceit” and in that competition he will most likely lose out to the very person he defends as he attacks the Leader of the Opposition.
Harry Gill is noted for his attacks on the Leader of the Opposition and the PNCR. Here he is again in his usually erratic style of analyzing social events, demonstrating that he is no credible source of information and that his arguments are as twisted and off track and as inconsistent as they come.
Though the question whether he is fish or fowl is pertinent, the answer is unfortunately not as clear as we would like it to be. With schizophrenic reasoning, as with Schizophrenic personalities, one may not know which personality is the real one even though in the case of Harry Gill the personality that is rabid anti PNCR seems to dominate this man who identifies himself as a supporter of the PNCR; since at every conceivable opportunity he fuels attacks on the party and makes every effort to weaken it in situations that will empower its competition.
Gill is another one of the PPP’s weapons geared to create mischief and camouflage the real agenda of destabilizing the PNCR at every opportunity. The Modus operandi has been seen in the ease they were able to infiltrate PNCR ranks and attack Indians as recent as in the post 1997 struggles. The strategy of using people like Harry Gill is not new. There are several in our society and they have been utilized to front attacks on the PNCR for years. These weapons were used pre 1992. They continue to benefit those who benefit from Guyana’s polarizing politics. They present as images that would ordinarily be perceived to be PNCR to launch anti PNCR attacks. The rank and file destabilizers like Gill have grown and their presumptuous stance grows bolder when they are not addressed immediately.
Mr. Corbin’s recent response to this constant nuisance attacker must mark the beginning of the PNCR’s rapid response to those who benefit from distorting reality.
As pointed out by Robert Corbin, Gill’s anti PNCR attack came under the guise of supporting Murray’s candidacy and now again in support of a president who has distinct record of presiding over the most lawless and bloody era in the history of contemporary Guyana. Maybe for Harry it is a case as we often say colloquially of “not giving a dog a bad name and hanging him” when it comes to the PPP leader to whom he gives the credit of believability. Same colloquialism is however not applicable to the leader of the PNCR in so far as Harry Gill’s distorted social commentary goes.
Harry Gill’s attack against the PNCR and its leader, is in support of the PPP Government and it’s President whose lack of credibility and trustworthiness is proven, a President whose regime has supported death squads that left hundreds of dead bodies
around the capital city and its environs; one whose government has a history of benefiting from violence and social upheavals such as the burning of sugar cane fields, the Son Chapman explosion, the violence post 1997 elections, where Desmond Hoyte identified the infiltration of PNCR protests by paid mercenaries; a President whose government has facilitated a US convicted drug Lord in acquiring high tech machinery for criminal activity, and who despite the evidence in a US court of credible law yet seeks to fool the Guyanese populace; one who has told a plethora of lies to this nation and others; who has violated and abused the sanctity of Hindu marriage and used same to deny a young woman the benefits of justice and the respect of “first lady status”; one who has vindictively sought the removal of Guyana’s reputable ACP ambassador Carl Greenidge under silly pretext.
These and much more, yet Harry Gill would have the readership believe that he is being true to reasoning even as he demonstrates a profound incapacity to appreciate the deductive reasoning applied by Robert Corbin to determine the PPP’s association with the recent spate of violence.
Harry Gill’s repertoire of unbelievable arguments gives meaning to Martin Luther King’s statement that, “Nothing in the entire world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity. “Harry Gill has written a lengthy response, but as always would rather deal with peripheral issues rather than the substantive issues. In his last response he deliberately overlooks the point made by Robert Corbin “I am not in the business of pleasing Jagdeo, as my job is to represent the interest of all Guyanese.” and focuses an entire letter clutching at straws to prove that those outside of the PNCR do not matter to Corbin.
Perhaps Harry Gill would have us believe that all Guyanese matter more to President Jagdeo and the PPP than to Corbin and the PNCR and that all Guyanese enjoy equity under the PPP more than they did or can ever do under the PNCR. The bauxite workers would laugh at Harry Gill and so would the public servants, families of the hundreds who died either from state inflicted violence, tortures, vigilante justice and even the government supporters in the sugar industry would laugh for indeed Harry Gill’s arguments are ludicrous.
Harry Gill supports President Jagdeo’s call for proof, but was incapable of dealing with the proof provided by Retired Colonel and attorney at Law Joseph Harmon who presided over the PNCR 2009 Congressional elections that Murray lost. He rejected the evidence of Murray’s acceptance and acknowledgement that he could not have won, but was comfortable attacking the PNCR and its leader for weeks upon weeks, demonstrating how lawless and deceitful he was prepared to stoop to spread propaganda and create disunity in the PNCR.
He knows that those who bear witness against this regime are targeted for destruction economically and politically, be it in denial of ads or other vicious means. Even GECOM has not been spared this when Dr Steve Surujbally dared to identify the state of affairs of registration and the grossly padded electoral list in 2006 elections.
There is no such fear with the PNCR, yet to date President Jagdeo fails to provide the alleged tapes implicating PNCR leaders in the Buxton siege…and he Harry Gill is silent. He had no voice for truth when the death of Minister Sash Shaw and many other questionable murderous events marring the stability of the Guyanese society were placed at the feet of the PNCR, without evidence of police investigation or reports.
When countless youth were criminalized by the state Harry Gill did not call for proof as many were subjected to brutal torture by the Jagdeo regime.
Gill has not stated if he is the Harry Gill of the “three calypsos fame” but it is clear that he is Harry Gill the betrayer of truth and the Ischariot of modern Guyanese politics.
There are many more “Harry Gills,” destabilizers and political tadpoles used as bait to ravage PNCR history, achievements and pride and freedom bids for this nation.
They must not succeed in deceiving Guyanese in 2011. They must not succeed in deceiving the membership of the PNCR nor the many Guyanese who look for an alternative government to bring peace, stability, unity and development for all Guyanese The rise of the Harry Gills must not allow for distracting the people of Guyana from witnessing and understanding the history making events that continue to characterize and bring closure to President Jagdeo’s lawless regime in 2011.
These are the issues they will vote against to usher in regime change and new beginnings.
The identification of a presidential candidate should open this nation’s eyes to see where true democracy and accountability of leadership lies. It is not with President Jagdeo and the PPP who Gill pretends to attack at times to make his horns appear real to those who are his target for constant vitriolic attacks.
Harry Gill, like many other known personalities on Guyana’s social and political landscape is running with the hounds; who uses his exterior image to infiltrate our minds and create internal conflict and dissent.
