Gordon Klien of Sophia, Georgetown, appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to charges ranging from unlawful possession of gun and ammunition to theft.
It is alleged that on January 15, last, on Sheriff Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, Kline stole one .32 Taurus pistol valued $235,000; eleven .32 matching rounds and one Blackberry cellular phone worth $140,000 from Vishnu Budan.
To the charges he pleaded not guilty. He was unrepresented.
According to police prosecutor Lionel Harvey, on the night in question, Budan and his girlfriend, Shondell Jones, were involved in an argument on Sheriff Street, when Budan threw his Blackberry cellular phone at Jones.
In the melee Budan’s licensed .32 Taurus pistol fell to the ground. Klien picked up the pistol and cell phone and made good his escape.
The matter was reported to the police and due to Klien being a well-known offender in the area; lawmen conducted a search and apprehended the suspect.
He had in his possession the gun, which contained the ammunition, and he had the cell phone.
He was subsequently told of the offence and taken to the station where he was charged and placed in custody.
Harvey objected to bail and requested that the accused be remanded. Magistrate Beharry remanded Klien and made the matter returnable on February 1.
