A US-based Guyanese was last evening shot dead by bandits, hours after he returned home for a one-week vacation with his wife.
Dead is Roopnatine Ramodit, 59. He was shot dead at Chuk Street, Clifton Settlement, Corentyne, Berbice. He lived in Minnesota, USA. He and his wife, Loopwattie, arrived in Guyana yesterday. It was the first time they were returning home after 18 years.
At around 19:30, the wife was in the kitchen when one of the bandits, armed with a gun, told her to be quiet, or all of them would be dead.
Ramodit was having dinner outside when the bandits attacked him. He was shot to his left side. The bandits took a gold chain he was wearing and fled the scene.
Neighbours tried to save Ramodit’s life and rushed him to the Port Mourant Hospital, but he died on the way.
