Dear Editor,
The call for the election of Mr. David Granger as Presidential candidate by one Tariek Lilly is no surprise since I have been reliably informed that he is a current member of the non-functioning GYSM and one who is a staunch supporter of the Leader of the party.
Yes, I strongly support Mr. Lilly’s claim that the government has neglected a large percentage of our young people during their eighteen years of governing this nation. However, what can we say of our party as opposition during this period.
I know that the party will want to say that it is not in government and so it is lacking in resources to assist our young people but that will be a lame excuse since I am aware of numerous efforts and attempts to have programmes in place to assist the development of our young people.
One that readily comes to mind is that of an afternoon programme for young people in the East Ruimveldt community that was coordinated by some past members of the GYSM.
This programme included afternoon lessons, workshops and training seminars, sports and culture where over one hundred young people between the ages of seven and 18 years attended from Monday to Friday.
I was surprised when I learned that the co-ordinators of this programme had to curtail their programme after being forced to leave by a staunch party member.
My reason for mentioning this is to say that while the efforts of some party members were genuine and interesting in the development of our young people there were some bent on causing problems and such it is currently as we approach the time to elect our Presidential Candidate.
I respect all five candidates and I do believe that all are genuine in their bid to become the presidential candidate of the party. My main concern is that if we do not win the next elections then what will be the future of the presidential candidate, and looking at the bigger picture the leader of the party?
Let us not be carried away by Mr. Corbin not being the presidential candidate; he is still the leader of the party. I leave you with the question to ponder and therefore my problem with Mr. David Granger is the fact that on a programme of First Look, he clearly mentioned that his concern is only with that of presidential candidate.
It therefore follows if the PNC does not win the next elections then more than likely the current opposition leader will grab at the opportunity to remain in that position and that we cannot continue with because of his weak nature as opposition leader.
It is my belief that a presidential candidate should understand the politics of the PNC and have a fair understanding of the grassroots of the party and supporters.
In addition, he must be knowledgeable in the economic arena and possess enormous negotiating skills and understand the workings of international agencies.
I am sure that you will agree with me that one person fits into that position and that is Mr. Carl Greenidge. Without doubt, since the departure of Mr. Winston Murray, Mr. Carl Greenidge is the most qualified person to be the party’s presidential candidate for the upcoming National and Regional elections.
Mr. Granger and all the other candidates have a plan Mr. Lilly, but Mr. Carl Greenidge has the master plan that will reverse our nation from the jaws of the dictators and make Guyana a country for all and not some.
Party members, come February vote for Carl Greenidge a man for the People, a man with a master plan for the Nation and a man willing to initiate Change.
