… wife of accused tried to save victim’s life
A man identified as Fazal Bacchus is currently in police custody following the death of Dhanpaul Rambarack of Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara.
Reports out of the area state that the 46-year-old Tamarack was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital some time after 21:00 hours on Sunday.
According to the dead man’s wife, Maryanne Eunice, her husband left their home close to 21:00 hours on Sunday to run an errand.
“Earlier in the day he drop off some people in Canal Number One so he go back fun de people. He tell mesh he coming back; that I must get ready. He goon carry me fun de drive,”. The woman said moments later she got a telephone call saying that her husband was beaten to death.
The woman related that she recently learnt that her husband was having an affair with a woman who lives at Anna Catherine. She said the affair has been causing trouble in her home for the longest while but she tried her best to ignore it.
“He does tell mesh don’t worry once he teak care ah me…But she does proper torment mesh…If something happen to she children she does call mesh husband fun come. If she and she husband got trouble she ah call him.”
The woman said that Sunday’s call was the call from this woman that probably caused her husband’s death.
“Mesh hear ad she call he and tell he data she Neighbour, Fatal ah cuss she out so he must come.” The woman added that when her husband arrived at the Gas Station Street, Anna Catherine, she was told that her husband was attacked by a drunken man.
“Dem tell me how Fatal de drunk and he wife lock he up in de yard but when he see mesh husband coming he jump over de fence and start beat me husband”.
According to the woman, the attacker kicked her husband several times in his head.
“Dem tell me how he slap me husband and he fall down and (the attacker) start kick him.”
The woman said that her husband was rushed to the hospital by his attacker’s wife.
“Dem tell me after he beat me husband he run away and is he wife get somebody fun drive we car and carry he to de hospital.”
The woman related that when she arrived at the hospital she was told that her husband was dead.
Meanwhile, this newspaper was told that the suspect who fled the scene immediately turned himself over to the police after his son contacted him via his mobile phone and informed him that Tamarack was dead.
This newspaper was told that up to press time yesterday the suspect was still in police custody assisting with investigations.
A post mortem examination is expected to be performed on Wednesday.
