Several parents who have children attending the College of Accountancy Business and Science Studies are beyond the point of frustration.
They have paid thousands of dollars to the principal of the school for the sitting of the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) but to date they have not yet written the exams.
Some of the irate parents who spoke with this publication said that their monies were paid to the school’s principal Dwayne Williams since November of 2009. According to one parent, Mrs. Germaine Barlow, she paid a total of $34,100 to the school and was even issued with a receipt for the money. Mrs. Barlow said that with the money she paid her son was expected to write seven subjects.
“We paid this money since November 2009, so when the time came for my son to write the exam, Williams told us that they have other children who are ahead of them so they will write the exam at the other sitting.”
But the parent said that as time kept drawing near, she began enquiring from the school about the time table for the exams.
“Every time we ask about the time table is ‘today, tomorrow’, we hearing. The exam was to be written earlier this month…up to Old Year’s Day the children were going to classes in preparation for the exam.”
This newspaper was told that the principal of the school went as far as collecting directions to each student’s home while telling them that their time tables for the exam will be delivered.
That never materialised thus pushing the parents to do their own investigation. Mrs. Barlow said she visited the Education Ministry’s Exams Division and was told that no monies were ever paid in by the school.
“Every time we call the principal he saying he give some woman to pay the money and she used up the money”.
The woman said she made reports to the Brickdam Police Station but all she got was promises by ranks there that they would visit the school to investigate.
Fortunately for Mrs. Barlow, she was eventually reimbursed her money.
However, another victim said he is still awaiting word from Mr. Williams about his $60,000 which he had paid to the school. Keith Joseph told this newspaper that he has two younger siblings attending the institution and he paid the monies for them the sit the exams.
Again he too said he has been given the royal run around by Mr. Williams for reimbursement. Joseph said he has already accepted the fact his two siblings may not be able to write the exams at the school but all he wants is to be refunded.
“This man needs to be exposed, you can’t be taking people’s money and do what you want with it when you running a school.”
Joseph said he too confirmed with the Examination Division that no money was ever paid by the principal or no other representative from the school. According to Joseph, he tried making telephone contact with Mr. Williams but to no avail.
“The last thing he tell me is that I should check with him on Monday but I keep calling him and he is not responding to my calls.”
In addition, several other parents who suffered the same fate said that money issues have been a long standing issue with that particular institution.
Meanwhile, several attempts to contact Mr. Williams on his mobile phone 6948685 proved futile.
