Dear Editor,
I have never read in any book on psychology or sociology or philosophy that human beings by nature are compelled to respect each other. There are categories of human behaviour that cause humans to disrespect their fellow human beings.
These aberrations are too numerous to enumerate. Should we respect hardened criminals who kill citizens for their money? Should we respect child molesters? Should we not show disdain for apologists who gloss over horrendous human rights violations?
Speaking for myself, it is my right to determine who I show reverence to and who I am contemptuous of. I have never asked any person in this world to like me or defer to me. All I have demanded is others show observance of my rights. For example, you can’t ask me to vacate my public seat that I occupied first.
Then I will demand my right. Against this background, let me say I have no respect for people like Errol Arthur, a Guyanese who migrated 40 years ago, lives in Washington, D. C. have not contributed to the development of my homeland in any meaningful way and criticises my politics. It is Mr. Arthur’s right to support the PPP Government and President Jagdeo. It is my right to decide how I feel about people like Arthur.
Mr. Arthur, a friend and beneficiary of Randy Persaud wants me to tell him when I will publish the essay whose summary I presented in “one-page” at an academic conference last year. Here is my reply to Arthur. I didn’t present a “one-page” summary. I live in Guyana, saw what was reported in the newspapers about the conference and haven’t read anyone penning the opinion that I read a one-page document.
Now when will I publish the essay? I will have my research put in print when I do like Randy Persaud and Errol Arthur – run from poverty-stricken Guyana, secure for citizenship for another country and apply for research grants from rich American foundations
Randy Persaud was made to look foolish and the Government of Guyana is looking stupid over Persasud’s claim to scholarship and patriotism. If Persaud is such a nationalist who loves his country and admires what the PPP is doing, why he ran away last year after six months with the Office of the President (OP)?
Kaieteur News reported twice that Persaud left in haste. His godfathers at the OP didn’t help his image by offering the reason for his sudden departure. To date, Randy Persaud has penned not one, single word as to why he returned to the US. He left it to his side-kick, Errol Arthur.
Despite four requests from me when he was here, Persaud refused to give his official designation. Is Persaud one of the planned returnees who will be allocated house lots? The answer is no. Randy Persaud is not coming back. The same for Errol Arthur like.
I know why Persaud left. I stated it in my column. Now that the election campaign is on, I will offer more evidence as to his hasty retreat. Finally, what more can I say about the disagreement between Persaud and Arthur after the latter put his foot in his mouth by boldly stating in his letter to Kaieteur News last year that Persaud is back teaching in Washington, D.C. Arthur will continue to deny it. This is the nature of people like Arthur and Persaud. Any fool can tell you that Persaud would have been upset because Arthur was graphically telling people that the great patriot chooses to teach in the US and not his own Guyanese students.
Keep writing Arthur so that in this election campaign we can expose how silly some PPP supporters are.
