Eagles Netball Club poses for a photo op following their final practice session yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Coach and founder of Eagles Netball Club Shondel Samaroo told this newspaper during the final practice session ahead of today’s season opening Sherwyn McKenzie Mixed Team Tournament that the team’s preparations had gone well and even though they are relatively new to competitions as a unit, she still expects a good performance.
Samaroo, who formed the team late last year, said that the team is coming off a prolonged preparatory phase which went right through the Christmas season except for one week and all the players are eager to get into competition mode.
She disclosed that the sessions were well attended and what they hope to get out of the tournament is valuable experience and cohesion as a team.
“We are hoping to achieve valuable experience because as you know this is a pretty young unit, having been together under a year and while most of them have a fair amount of knowledge of the sport, they haven’t had the opportunity to play together as a team,” Samaroo stated.
She added that the players are still growing as a team with the majority of players ages range between 16-19 years and this tournament will provide another chance for them to bond as a team.
The tournament starts today at 09:00 hrs and continues tomorrow at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Meanwhile, the three teams have named their line-ups to contest the competition and they are:
