Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition Robert Corbin yesterday announced that the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) will fill the vacant seat that it has in the National Assembly as a result of the death of the late Winston Murray.
Murray’s demise also left the portfolio of Shadow Finance Minister vacant and while Corbin was reluctant to announce who the replacement was he did say that it would be filled by a serving Member of Parliament.
This newspaper understands that the person tipped to assume that portfolio is the current Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee and PNCR MP Volda Lawrence.
She is also the party’s Director of the Human Services Department.
Lawrence is an Accountant by profession, she has a Degree in Accounting from the University of Guyana, a Masters Degree from Gloucester University, England and is a Certified Chartered Accountant (ACCA Level II).
She is currently employed by the American School in that capacity.
A member of the Central Executive Committee (CEC), Lawrence is also the Shadow Minister of Human Services and Social Security.
The two posts in the National Assembly were made available after the Former Shadow Finance Minister Winston Murray passed away in November last year.
He had collapsed and was declared brain dead before he succumbed.
