LIAT passengers can go online, use travel agencies to book flights

In the wake of the fire, last Monday morning, which destroyed its local offices in Georgetown, LIAT yesterday announced that travellers have several options, including going online or using travel agencies, to book flights.
Chief Commercial Officer, Leesa Parris-Rudder, noted that customers can utilize the company’s website: www.liat.com to continue to make their bookings. The portal is available online 24 hours daily, in addition to the airline’s call centre which is also available daily via 1-888-844-5428.
“Customers also have the option of making their bookings at a travel agency of their choice.”
“LIAT regrets the inconvenience that would have been caused as a result of the fire and we are working to provide convenient options to customers in the near future,” Parris-Rudder said.
Investigators have not yet ruled whether the fire, which destroyed the wooden structure at Main and Holmes Streets, is arson, but in addition to LIAT’s offices, Dagron Tours and H & F Machinery Incorporated were destroyed. The incident happened shortly after 01:00hrs on Monday.
Persons in the area had told this publication that they heard three explosions, with the third being the loudest.
Kathryn Eytle-McLean, the Chief Executive Officer of Frandec, had told Kaieteur News that she received a call some time after midnight on Monday informing her about the fire.
She said that she immediately rushed down to the Main Street location only to see the decades-old edifice engulfed in flames. The CEO estimated her company’s losses as being quite substantial.
Frandec is one of the oldest travel agencies in Guyana, representing several international airlines.
The company has been in existence for over 50 years.
Peter Fraser, Chairman of H & F Machinery, described the fire a “tremendous blow for his company”, while Chief Executive Officer for Dagron Tours, Ann Hamilton, told reporters that the entire database (records) for her company was obliterated.
The fire occurred just hours before Hamilton was due to meet with a number of tourists.
The building is insured by the Guyana/Trinidad Mutual Insurance Company.
