Under the theme “the Law and Discrimination – examining the Racial Hostility Act and the Representation of the People Act” the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) will be hosting a countrywide lecture series that will commence in the auditorium of the University of Guyana’s Berbice Campus at Tain, Corentyne, on January 27.
In a release yesterday, the commission disclosed that the lecture is expected to commence at 15:00hrs and conclude at 17:00hrs.
The body expressed the hope that the public will become more informed and responsible when dealing with ethnic relations, especially during an elections period. This forms part of the entity’s public education and awareness programme for 2011.
The Public Lecture Series, the ERC noted, will be held once monthly, and will have expert personnel and prominent citizens delivering vital information that will stimulate discussions where the expected outcome will be behavioural change, promoting a culture of peace and encouraging national reconciliation.
The Lecture is open to the general public and admission is free.
