Coach of Emanie Netball Club Lavern Fraser-Thomas in an invited comment with Kaieteur Sport shortly before the start of a practice session at the National Gymnasium yesterday said that the team’s preparations for tomorrow’s season opening Sherwin McKenzie Mixed Team Competition have been satisfactory despite the short time to assemble.
Fraser-Thomas, herself a former national player disclosed that she was extremely heartened by the quick response from the players who all answered the call to come out and attend practice sessions.
“Players have answered the call which came shortly after the Christmas holidays and this development is a positive step as they wanted to ensure that the club was adequately and competently represented,” Fraser-Thomas told this newspaper.
She revealed that the team is confident of doing well during the tournament.
She noted that it is also a step in the right direction to see the season open earlier than usual, adding out that it was good to see a former player come forward and undertake to sponsor the tournament.
“I want to thank this player for doing so and it just shows that whether you are a former player of a sports enthusiast it really do not take much to sponsor a tournament,” she said.
Fraser-Thomas called on others such as McKenzie to come forward and add their support to the sport so that it could really take off this year.
Meanwhile, the names of members of the team has been released and they are: Onika Ryan, Tamica Waterman, Rushelle Fraser, DaCoata Lucius, Carnecia Perreira, Robyn Thomas, Margaret Scipio, Telitta Griffith, Renea Anderson, Natisha Fordyce, Gracelyn Lewis, Angeline Dyer, Odetta Eastman, Adellie Lee, Keyola Brower, Warren Wilson, Wray Sparman, Towafa Jordon, Rawle Thomas, Shawn Henry, Onika Culpepper, Ashana Chapman and Odessa Eastman.
