Following recent elections, the Keith Foster led Berbice Cricket Board on Sunday last met and appointed five executive members while naming a number of committees for the 2011/2012 term.
The executives was re-elected en bloc in a vote of confidence at the BCB’s Bi-annual General Meeting on December 27.
The five executive members who were appointed are Julian Cambridge of West Berbice; Qualis Winter of Kildonan and Central Corentyne; Godfrey Persaud of Port Mourant and Lower Corentyne; Shabeer Baksh of Blairmont and West Berbice and Lionel Thomas of Upper Corentyne.
The appointments were done by the Board based on its all inclusive forward thrust to ensure that all areas in the Ancient County were represented at the highest level of the Board.
Veteran Cricket Administrator Carl Moore was named Chairman of the Competitions Committee and he would be supported by Winston Smith, Leslie Solomon, Aubrey Collins and a representative to be named by West Berbice. The Competition’s Committee will elect a Vice Chairman when they meet.
The Senior Selection Committee would once again be led by Second Vice President Mark Lyte. The other members are Romash Munna, Julian Cambridge of West Berbice and Neville Williams of Upper Corentyne.
Long serving selector Leslie Solomon will again head the Junior Selection Committee while most of the former members were also re-appointed. They are Randolph Latcha, Moses Samlall and Patrick Lewis. Upper Corentyne’s Deoprakash Ramdat was named is the only new member.
The Board as part of its effort to curb indiscipline among cricketers and clubs in Berbice has established a Disciplinary Committee which would be led by former Magistrate and Attorney-at-Law Mr. Rohan Chandan. The other members are Probation Officer and Umpire Clement Brusch, Treasurer Anil Beharry, Second VP Mark Lyte and a representative to be named from the Competitions Committee.
Heading the Cricket Development Committee is Mark Lyte; the other members are Winston Smith, Albert Smith, Hubern Evans, Julian Moore, Adrian Amsterdam, Delbert Hicks, Renwick Batson and Muthuswammi Permual of Albion Community Centre Cricket Club.
Third VP Hubern Evans heads the four-member Financial & Fund Raising Committee which also includes Treasurer Anil Beharry, Assistant Treasurer Romash Munna and Shabeer Baksh. Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Hilbert Foster was reappointed as the Public Relations Officer with Carl Moore as his deputy.
Foster, the younger brother of President Keith Foster was also re-appointed Chairman of the highly successful Special Events Committee. This Committee has been the backbone of the success story of the Board over the past three years with a total of 170 programmes and projects completed.
The other members of the Committee are First VP David Black, Anil Beharry, Angela Haniff, Carol Nurse, Winston Smith, Gregory Rambarran, Nermala Sewdat, Romash Munna, Patrick Lewis, Orvin Mangru of Albion Community Centre Cricket Club, Ravi Narine, Moonish Singh and Dhieranidranauth Somwaru.
PRO Foster disclosed that the Board was quite pleased with the performances of all of its officials during the 2009/2010 and they intend to redouble their efforts on and off the field during this term.
The Board has set itself a target of at least 15 tournaments from Under-13 to seniors and a total of 75 off the field programmes.
The 2011 cricket season would be launched in mid February at the No. 69 Ground in Upper Corentyne with the Rohan Kanhai Tribute Match.
