Rodwell Thomas, the 60-year-old man who sustained severe injuries after being struck by a Toyota Tundra on the McDoom Public Road, East Bank Demerara, on Tuesday last, remains in a serious, but stable condition at the Georgetown Hospital’s High Dependency Unit, and his family fears that justice may not prevail.
One of the Thomas’s daughters expressed concern that since the accident occurred her father’s statement has not yet been taken by the police.
Further, she stated that while her father is in hospital, the man who is responsible for his injuries is quite alright, and not even in police custody.
According to the woman, every day as she passes the station, she checks in the compound to see if the suspect’s vehicle is there. She said that that development now seems unlikely.
Thomas is currently suffering injuries to his spine, head, back, neck and face.
The father of six was struck down around 10:00hrs on Monday. He was said to have been on a pedestrian crossing when the driver of the Tundra overtook a vehicle that stopped for Thomas to cross.
Information reaching this newspaper stated that the elderly man was hurled approximately 10ft away from the pedestrian crossing.
Kaieteur News understands that a pastor (name given) was behind the wheel of the Tundra.
Recently, when this publication contacted the said pastor, he stated that “I am in no position to talk about the accident”.
