Dear Editor,
I believe most Berbicians welcome the move by Government to bring street lights to the roads here.
Not only are our roads here illuminated in the night, but persons feel much safer in their communities, especially those which have benefitted from the street lighting project.
Yes, while many communities and areas would benefit, some would not. For example, the Number 19 Road would not have street lights. Even though it is said that representation is being made from the Regional level in Berbice, I doubt that the project would be extended to the Number 19 Road anytime soon.
I find it very strange how this area was left out of the project. This long stretch of roadway has numerous homes and houses stretched right through. Several farms and rice mills exist in the area. Lights on this road would bring a great ease on motorists, as well as residents.
The project is indeed a timely one which would benefit all Berbicians. They have spaced the distance and the lights are from each other so that longer areas can benefit from the project.
Main Street New Amsterdam, for the first time in many, many years is illuminated.
It is pleasing indeed to see that our taxes are used for our benefit. I had hoped that the project would move to Stanleytown in New Amsterdam and other murky and dark areas of the town that could use some brightening up.
Maybe this is in the pipeline for later. But all in all, it is a good start.
